“The house is immaculate, and very well done. It has everything you could ever want or ask for. The kids (we had 5 in total) made a non-stop loop from the back porch to the awesome beach below. Out of a magazine. …the house manager…is the sweetest and most professional person I have ever met in this business. She was ready and willing to help with any questions or smallest of problems.”

This was our second visit to Big Blu and we’ve already booked for next year! The home is lovely, the sunsets stunning, and the beach beautiful… a perfect destination to have it all. Our favorite two places, however, are the sunroom where the first to rise meet for coffee and read or to connect and talk about the day to come, and the large porch overlooking the lake. We spent hours playing games, relaxing, catching up with each other, and creating memories to last a lifetime.

Our review wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the incredible hospitality and service provided by Rochelle, Melanie and team! Not only were they super responsive but they would bend over backward to assist with any need that arose. And what fun they were to talk with!! A fantastic and inspirational team!

Big Blu is a wonderful home that allows for a large group to stay comfortably with enough room to find some time for solitude. The large covered porch is the perfect place to gather, read and relax. Our kids loved the beach and playing in the waves. There is also lots to do in nearby towns. Importantly, the property managers are extremely friendly and responsive.

Big Blu was a delightful venue for our family to enjoy a week together. Everything worked out very well for us. We enjoyed the beach, the large porch where we ate all of our meals at the picnic table, and the magnificent Lake Michigan sunsets! The kitchen was great, well equipped and a perfect spot for preparing some delicious meals. The bedrooms worked out well and the kids enjoyed the video games in the basement. Every evening after sunset the adults enjoyed a movie in the basement. The house was big enough for everyone to enjoy some privacy and layed out well enough to feel cozy. It’s an ideal location to enjoy all the State of Michigan has to offer on the west side of the state: beautiful lakes, sand dunes, quaint cities, sunsets and star gazing.

We had a problem during our stay which showed the strength of the management team! The dryer went out during a pandemic when appliances are in short supply. The washer and dryer were replaced during our stay. The management kept us informed as they shopped, replaced and installed the new ones. They provided fresh towels to ease the checkout process and the workers were very courteous, wore masks and did their best to stay out of our way. I highly recommend the property and the management! We are planning on coming back!

We really enjoyed kayaking on Duck Lake directly in front of the home. We saw a juvenile bald Eagle, fish, turtles and a comorant.

There are a lot of stairs down a steep hill and then a short walk to access the fire pit and dock. It would be tough on anyone elderly or handicapped.

The manager was very welcoming! She had farm fresh eggs and homemade jam waiting upon our arrival. The kitchen had lots of cookware, coffee pot and a 4-slice toaster. Seating at indoor and outdoor tables both accommodated 8.

The only negative was no air conditioning so bring a few fans in the summer.

I would definitely come back again!

We had a wonderful stay here. This is our second summer renting for 1 week. I grew up in Whitehall and love to bring my family back for a vacation. We love Duck Lake for kayaks, paddle boards, and sunfish sailboats. The house is well appointed and we especially enjoy the path to the lake and dock, the books left to read, and the games played by everyone. The washer/dryer is great to have, especially for wet beach towels. The weather was great this year and we went to the beach everyday. The grill and outdoor table/chairs were used to cook and eat outside. I think our favorite restaurants are Pekadils for lunch (we discovered they bake fresh pecan and cinnamon rolls on Sunday mornings!) and Hobos for dinner-try the local perch dinner. A trip to pick local blueberries is a must-we leave with 20lbs. of the best Michigan blueberries. Fetch in town is fun for craft beers and we happened to catch the annual classic car show this year. All in all, a wonderful week for family memories. No problems with the house and Melanie and Rhonda are great to work with.

It was very clean and the pictures were very accurate. Loved the walk down to, and the view of the lake from the house. It’s a classic cottage and we really enjoyed ourselves.

The cottage was very clean and comfortable. Beds were comfortable and everyone slept well. The rules for the house were a bit excessive but I would assume that is how they kept everything so nice. I would suggest they provide a basic first aid kit. There were bandaids but nothing for a serious emergency or even something to remove a basic splinter from the bark walkway. Not a criticism, but other suggestion that is not necessary but would make your place even more awesome would be some outdoor games. Maybe a horseshoe pit or badminton set for older kids. Over all I would recommend this rental as top notch.

We just returned from a four day stay at the lake house. It was the perfect size for our family, but is on the smaller size so if you have kids or teens that want a lot of personal space you may want to take that into consideration. The house is set back a good distance from the road, so we felt safe having our kids run in the yard. The trek to the beach is down a lot of stairs that is to the right of the owners house and across a dune, but we were able to do it with our three kids under 8. The hardest part was getting a cooler down there because you couldn’t drag it most way. But once you are down there it is worth it. The beach is amazing and the water is shallow for a very good amount out. Perfect for our family. We spent an entire day there with very tired kiddos afterward. In town montague foods had everything you need. And you must try pekadill for sandwiches and ice cream one day!!

One small thing that was never mentioned is the washing machine is in the cellar with the entrance outside of the house. Took us a minute to find it!

Overall a wonderful stay and one of our favorite locations.

We stayed at the Lake House for the first time this year. We loved how close it is to Medbery Park as that is where we always have gone for sunsets. All the information that we needed was sent to us before we left. The check in process was very easy. We were told what time to check in and everything was ready when we arrived. My wife spent several days at the beach collecting rocks and even found a few Petoskey Stones. It was a great vacation and we are already planning on returning next year. Thanks again for everything.

We had a wonderful time at the Lakehouse! What a lovely welcome with the jazz music playing and the goodies on the kitchen counter! The house was adorably decorated and incredibly clean upon arrival. The owners were very nice and so accommodating. The location of the cottage is perfect! Easy access to the beach either from the back across the dunes or just down the road to the public access to the beach. And the rental company has excellent customer service! Can’t say enough great things about our stay! Hope to come again someday! 🙂

We really enjoyed our stay at this cottage. There was soft music playing when we arrived and a basket of treats (fresh eggs, granola bars, water and local jam). It was a lovely touch to make us feel welcomed. The cottage is very nicely decorated/furnished and was clean. The kitchen was well stocked. Our son loved playing in the front yard area and we loved the beautiful views of Lake Michigan. We got to see two storms come in and two very beautiful sunsets. The cottage is a super short drive to a nice beach and we enjoyed going every day. There is a way to walk to the beach from the cottage but we didn’t try that out because we had a toddler with us. It was a great setting for making family memories. We would absolutely stay here again whenever we are back in Michigan!

We loved our stay at mid oaks! We loved the history and overall feeling of the cottage. It was great being so close to the lake. The furniture and bedding was all very comfortable. We stayed during a cooler week and were glad. Cooking in the kitchen gets really hot so we tried to only use the kitchen at breakfast and mostly used the grill. It would’ve been nice to have an extra set of towels and hand towels and a laundry basket for going up and down from the basement. And another note for anyone coming with small children, there isn’t a bathtub. Just standup shower. These aren’t complaints, just notes. Everything was really clean and well taken care of. If you have kids and loads of stuff you will probably want to drive down to the beach but we never had an issue with parking down there. We enjoyed a concert at the bandshell, icecream at the old time soda fountain, and coffee and books from the book shop. I would love to come back next summer!

  • Very Enjoyable Stay at Mid-Oaks

My family and I had such an enjoyable stay at Mid-Oaks. We spent our days visiting some nearby nature preserves and sunning and reading on the beach which is just a short walk from the cottage. The weather was a little cool, but that made for cozy nights by the fireplace. We felt very welcomed as we entered the clean and fresh cottage and were greeted with fresh eggs, a welcome basket, and soft music playing. What a lovely place! Thanks!

Couldn’t have asked for a better trip. House is older but larger than expected and very clean.

Location is great. 1 mile to a great beach. 1 mile to a nice little down town. Silver lake sandunes only 30min away. Took a day trip to grand rapids zoo

Farm itself is an experience. Able to roam freely, kids loved it. Tons and tons of room.

Stu the farmer was by far the best part of the trip. Great with the kids and one of those people you just want to be around. Took the kids potatoes hunting, let them feed chickens and collect eggs and overall just wanted to make sure we had an amazing trip. Not over bearing at all. Asked when we checked in what and when we wanted to do on the farm and then left us to do our own thing. Kids were never bored. Beats the heck out of any regular house. Our entire family hopes we get to hang with Stu again.

    Would recommend staying here 100%

Thanks for the memories Scholl Farm!

We booked the Farm for our first family vacation- it was the best experience ever!! The accomodations were lovely- the house is spacious, well designed, and had everything we needed. The farm itself is so beautiful and we learned so much, thanks to the owners Stu and Connie, whose generosity of spirit is remarkable. They went the extra mile to make sure we got to experience farm life and made us feel like family. Montague is a lovely town with so much to do- we can’t wait to return home to the Farm!

Our family (me, my wife and three kids (8, 5 and 4) just spent a few days at the Scholl’s Farm Cottage and it was just perfect. Stu and Connie were so welcoming and hospitable, we felt like we were among family. They were so engaging and patient with the kids as they got to feed the chickens and Bennett (sheep), as well as pick eggs. They got to dig for potatoes and pick corn and enjoy a huge bonfire at night. The experience was magical and the kids (and I) didn’t want to leave when it was over. I highly recommend this for anyone who has an interest in getting away for the hustle and bustle of their daily lives and reconnect with nature, family and themselves. We definitely plan to be back again!

We enjoyed 10 quiet and isolated nights in early October at the property with lovely sunsets viewed from the deck. The cottage and its kitchen are nicely equipped. We would stay again and come back with friends. 3 couples could comfortably stay here. Our only wish would be to have the piano tuned. The town of Montague and adjoining Whitehall are lovely, and there are state parks to explore in the area.

Wonderful, relaxing stay! My wife, our dog, and I enjoyed a long weekend at this lovely lake house. We felt welcome from the moment we stepped in the house with music playing and a bottle of wine waiting. The lake house was very accommodating for guests. With a short walk to the beach, we enjoyed morning and evening walks along the coast of Lake Michigan. The evening sunsets were breathtaking! The house was also a short drive from downtown Montague and beautiful parks. I would absolutely recommend this place for anyone looking for a relaxing, delightful vacation. Thank you for the memories!

Great cottage and beautiful views. The hike to the beach was about 7 min. The beach is almost a mile long with both ends available to the public. This cottage was in the middle, so you basically had the beach to yourselves. For anyone with physical concerns getting to the beach, you can always drive to the end of the rd and enter at the public entrance. There is a croquet set & bat mitten which my family played every day. I didn’t notice a net, but we made something up. They do have wood for the fire, but we did bring our own ax to split some wood. Super nice weber grill. It was a great stay and we plan to come back next summer.
